Film will show human side of monster murderer Whitey

HE’S a homicidal maniac who murdered 11 people but Irish gangster James “Whitey” Bulger will be portrayed as a loving father and devoted boyfriend in a new blockbuster movie.

Forthcoming film “Black Mass,” which stars Johnny Depp as Whitey, will show the human side of the monstrous Irish mob boss.

Actress Dakota Johnson, – who also stars in the big-screen treatment of the sizzling “Fifty Shades of Grey” novels – will play Lindsey Cyr, the woman who was Bulger’s lover for 12 years and the mother of his son, Douglas.

The movie will attempt to demonstrate how the devastating death of their six-year-old child Douglas turned Boston-based Whitey into a hateful murderer.

“The boy died tragically and in a dark way, set Bulger free to become the full-blown monster that he was,” said Dick Lehr, one of the authors of “Black Mass” and “Whitey: The Life of America’s Most Notorious Crime Boss,” the books the film is based upon.

According to Cyr, she first met Bulger when she was a waitress and he was working as a labourer on a building site after serving time for bank robbery.

After Douglas’ birth, Bulger became a proud and attentive father, who was shattered by the boy’s death, caused by an allergic reaction to asprin. The Southie mobster became “colder” after his son died, reveals Lehr.

“When we wrote that chapter, it was the one moment when I could see Whitey being like any other parent,” says Lehr. “The loss of a child is one of the worst things imaginable and in that moment, there seemed to be a touch of humanity in Whitey Bulger the parent. But it was a moment in a long life.”
