Man who claims Whitey Bulger strangled his sister to death demands justice

A MAN who claims notorious Irish mobster James “Whitey” Bulger strangled his beloved sister to death is begging prosecutors to re-investigate the case.

Bulger – the head of the notorious Boston Irish “Winter Hill Gang” – was convicted of the murders of 11 people in August of this year.

But a federal jury was unable to reach a verdict on the 1981 slaying of 26-year-old Debra Davis.

Now her brother Steve Davis has met with prosecutors to talk about the possibility of bringing a state murder charge against the infamous gangster.

“I want them to bring him to trial for conspiracy to murder,” said Davis.

Even though Bulger, 84, faces life in prison when sentenced in November in federal court in Boston, Davis said, “That’s just not good enough.”

The Irish mob boss, whose life story formed the basis of Oscar-winning movie The Departed, went on the run in 1995 and was only recaptured 16 years later.

Jake Wark, a spokesman for the Suffolk District Attorney’s office in Boston, said, “As in every single homicide in Boston, we will take a serious look at the evidence.

“First, we have to assemble it, then we have to assess it. Only then can we make an informed charging decision.”

Bulger’s deputy, Stephen “The Rifleman” Flemmi testified at Bulger’s trial that Bulger insisted they kill Davis, who was Flemmi’s girlfriend, because she was ending her relationship with Flemmi and knew that the two gangsters were secretly FBI informants.

Flemmi said he brought Davis to a vacant South Boston home he had purchased for his parents, then watched as Bulger strangled her.  He said they later buried her along a river bank.

Investigators unearthed her remains in the Autumn of 2000, based on a tip from another Bulger associate.

Bulger’s lawyers argued at trial that Bulger had nothing to do with Davis’s murder and that it was actually Flemmi who killed her. The jury found Bulger guilty of 31 of 32 counts of a sweeping racketeering indictment, and found that the gangster participated in 11 of 19 murders he was accused of committing while running a sprawling criminal enteprise from the 1970s through the 1990s.

Mr Davis said he is convinced that even if Bulger did not strangle his sister, the mobster was present when Flemmi killed her because they were partners and the murder occurred in a house next door to the home of Bulger’s brother, William, the former president of the Massachusetts Senate and the University of Massachusetts.

Hmm it appears like your blog ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess
I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say,
I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I too am an aspiring
blog blogger but I’m still new to everything.
Do you have any helpful hints for rookie blog writers?
    I’d definitely appreciate it.
